What plant is this and what are the caring conditions? Watering, soil, etc.

This plant is a snake plant - Sansevieria trifasciata. They require well-drained growing mix, moderate fertilization, high light, and low water. We have several and are in south or west windows. If you're not sure if the plant needs water, wait a day! The best way to kill one of these is to over-water it.
