This is a great question! There is no doubt that tracking your stock and inventory is an important tool when it comes to sound financial management. While I can't recommend a specific program, I will tell you there are a number of good programs available. You will need to do some research and comparison to determine which one is best for your program. Check with your point of sale vendor and prime vendor as many of them have excellent programs. Perpetual inventory is a good way to track stock, and typically uses a physical count at least twice per year. The Institute of Child Nutrition (formerly the National School Food Management Institute) has an excellent tool, Inventory Management and Tracking Guide, which can be found at this link: http://nfsmi.org/DocumentSearch.aspx You can also find more information and tools at the USDA Professional Standards website, found atthis link: http://professionalstandards.nal.usda.gov/content/operations-2000
Good luck in finding the right program to use that is efficient and effective in managing your stock and inventory!
