How can I save my aspen trees?

Asked August 29, 2015, 10:53 PM EDT

This spring my aspens leafed out with nice green leaves, and in early summer the leaves turned black and shedding started so that now the trees have a few branches with dried up black leaves left. I have noticed on a few of the tops of two trees some new green leaves that have budded out. Is there some advice you can give on what might save these trees?

Hello,

The die off of your aspen leaves is probably caused by one of two things. The first is that the leaves came out before the cold snap we had in May. The other is caused by a fungus. The attached link gives lots of good information about the latter. http://www.ext.colostate.edu/ptlk/1403.html

Aspen trees, although beautiful, can be tricky.

Best of luck with your trees!
