black walnut tree?

Asked August 21, 2015, 9:06 PM EDT

I think I have a black walnut tree and there are some seeds on the ground now and was wondering if they are OK to try and harvest, or do you have to wait? I have a few of these trees in our woods and one has a lot of nuts on it. I have read that they are ready to harvest in October. Are the ones safe that have fallen right now? Any advice?

Hi,

Here is some good information about black walnuts from the U. And, yes, you can harvest the ones that have fallen, but you should pick them up immediately to prevent spoiling.

Here that link to the info. Enjoy! http://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/yard-garden/trees-shrubs/growing-black-walnut/
