Growing Grass in Shade

Asked August 18, 2015, 11:35 AM EDT

I have a huge area of the back yard that now has no grass. It gets little or no sun and I'm watching erosion of the soil. Is there a grass seed for shaded areas?

Unfortunately, turf grass planted in lawns that receive little or no direct sun may not establish well. Tall fescue would be the most tolerant of dense shade but might need to be replanted in both September AND March each year.

Ornamental grasses and ground covers would be the best option for erosion control in heavy shade .
