Are tomatoes from plants with blight safe for eating?

Asked August 14, 2015, 10:31 AM EDT

We recently and suddenly developed an issue with blight on our tomato plants. Is it safe to eat the seemingly untouched fruit if we pick it now (tomatoes are still green) and allow them to ripen indoors?

Yes, many growers do what you have suggested with good results. Unfortunately, tomato plants do sometimes succumb to disease before the end of the growing season so it's not uncommon to harvest fruit from leafless vines.
