Harvest calendar for Beltsville MD

Asked August 6, 2015, 3:59 PM EDT

I'm looking for a calendar/chart that will tell me the optimal harvest times for various garden crops in the Beltsville MD area. I am looking for something similar to the chart here: http://www.afac.org/plot-against-hunger/resources/planting-calendar/ or confirmation that this chart is suitable to use in the Beltsville area. This request is for a research project for a Beltsville area non-profit farm that donates produce at a food pantry. Thanks!

Optimal harvest time is specific to individual plants, cultivars, weather conditions, etc. Some years you can start harvesting tomatoes in early July and some years you have to wait later. Some tomato cultivars produce fruit much earlier than others. If you want a very general guideline the chart that you have is very roughly accurate, but our recommendation would be to look at your individual vegetables and harvest when the size and condition of the vegetable is appropriate. Harvest guidelines are listed under each vegetable on our website. https://extension.umd.edu/growit/vegetable vw
