Treating soil infested with yellow black spiny bugs

Asked August 5, 2015, 8:59 AM EDT

My zucchini, cucumber and pumpkin plants were infested with yellow black spiny bugs ( cucumber Beatle ) I had to remove all my plants because all the vines were infested. I would like to know how can I treat the soil now to stop the spread to the rest of the garden. Please help! Thank you! Sallie

This is not a pest that can be controlled by treating the soil. Here is out website info, from the Grow It Eat It vegetable profiles, which explain cucumber beetles and how to control them: http://extension.umd.edu/growit/insects/cucumber-beetles-spotted-or-striped

You'll notice that they overwinter in plant debris. The row cover is very effective and worth the investment.
