selling a time share

Asked July 29, 2015, 3:10 PM EDT

I prematurely bought a time share in Massachusetts "at a discount" that had been foreclosed. Our household circumstances have changed and we are in a financial bind; I would like to sell the time share without losing 100% of our investment. What steps should I take?

Selling a timeshare isn't easy, but there are a few resources.

Check the FTC website: http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0073-timeshares-and-vacation-plans#selling

Normally, I wouldn't link to a website that sells services, but it seems that many people reference the Timeshare Users Group. http://www.tug2.net/advice/howtosellyourtimeshare.htm

I haven't used their services, but the information on the site looked useful, and it seems the site is upfront about what they charge for. Source: http://parents.berkeley.edu/recommend/housing/timeshares.html

The overwhelming advice is to not pay a reseller an upfront fee.

Whatever you do, good luck.
