honeycrisp pests?

Asked July 28, 2015, 10:21 PM EDT

Hi, We just got our first batch of honeycrisp apples this year but have what seems to be an infestation of apple maggots and coddling moths. (see attached pictures) Is there any hope of saving them? Will they still be edible? What if I've already composted some of the apples? Thanks! Paul

They apples are edible. They don't keep as well and although one can eat the worms most people don't want to. Blemished apples make good sauce or apple butter.
Next year spraying or apple bagging will prevent the majority of the potential damage.
