Cucumbers are susceptible to several problems, powdery mildew is very common.
Cucumber beetles can do damage and in the process they can transmit a serious disease known as bacterial wilt.
On the other hand, cucumber vines are annual plants and after producing fruit for two or three weeks, will begin to fade.
Powdery mildew can be prevented, but it requires a fungicidal spray schedule beginning before any symptoms appear and continuing regular applications every 5-7 days throughout the season. http://extension.umd.edu/growit/powdery-mildew-vegetables
Cucumber beetles are more difficult to control. Cucumber plants can be covered with a floating row cover when planted and left covered until they begin producing flowers. One must also monitor the plants carefully and look for egg masses and adults. http://extension.umd.edu/growit/insects/cucumber-beetles-spotted-or-striped
