What would cause the sudden death of my willow tree?

Asked July 8, 2015, 12:52 PM EDT

I have a nice willow tree about 8 years old, and this spring it had a lot of buds on it, but then they all dried up, and the whole tree looks dead. There was a lower branch with several leaves on it, but that died also. I have a maple right next to it and it's fine. The grass under willow is growing normally. Any ideas of what would cause this sudden death?

Willows have numerous insect and disease pests. As a result, willows tend to be short-lived. It's impossible to identify the factor or factors responsible for the death of the willow.
