How to get rid of horse nettle in a small goat pasture.

Asked July 6, 2015, 12:59 PM EDT

I have a small 1/2 acre goat pasture and quite a bit of horse nettle coming up and starting to flower. Goats won't eat it. What is the best way to get rid of it? Thanks.

For horse nettle I usually give out these two fact sheets.

One from Virginia: https://pubs.ext.vt.edu/450/450-142/450-142_pdf.pdf and another from West Virginia : http://anr.ext.wvu.edu/r/download/108738.

The best options are to use chemical control, but you should check and be sure they are labeled for use in your county. The fact sheet from West Virginia also lists options for "mechanical" control, such as tilling and mowing.
