What is wrong with my basswood tree?

Asked July 6, 2015, 11:07 AM EDT

I have a basswood, looks to be about 30 feet high or more. The bottom 10 feet the leaves are green full and thick, but the top 20 ft or so looks to be starting to die, leaves thinning, wilting, turning brown, and falling off.

The trunk may be damaged just below the portion of the tree that seems to be dying. The best way to determine what's affecting the tree's health and what, if anything, can be done about it is to ask a forester are certified arborist to inspect the tree onsite.
