dispose of dead wood in a bog

Asked July 5, 2015, 9:18 AM EDT

I have piles of dead wood ( felled trees cut into logs years ago ) that I would like to dispose of.

I have a large boggy area on my property and I am wondering if throwing the logs into the bog will be better than keeping them in a pile.

Dear gardener,

Thank you for contacting us. Bogs are a very special type of ecosystem that are important in their own right and should be left undisturbed.

I suggest that you park the wood elsewhere. You might consider using the wood to create a habitat for birds and wildlife. Here is some information about this topic: http://www.nwf.org/How-to-Help/Garden-for-Wildlife/Gardening-Tips/Attracting-Wildlife-With-Dead-Tree...
