Is it possible this is a copperhead even though it was found in upstate New York?

The snake looks like an Eastern Milk Snake.

Our snake expert has positively identified this as an Eastern milk snake, a harmless beneficial snake. It is a member of the King Snake family ( genus Lampropeltis) and like other King Snakes eats rodents, and other snakes. Its mature size is about three to four feet long. The very young are a brighter red on a white background. It tends to fade with age. It should not be harmed.
