beetle invasion

Asked June 22, 2015, 10:19 AM EDT

I have a small vegetable garden that supplies us with plenty of fresh greens. Today weeding I fount multiple beetles on a few plants that looked chewed on. Other than hand picking how do I protect my garden? Over the years I have been helped by gardens in the library, thanks for your work.

We suspect the numbers of beetles will be high this year due to the moist weather last year. https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/japanese-beetles Since you plan to eat your greens, you probably would not want to spray them for beetles. You could consider covering them with a fine net or floating row cover. vw
