Losing leaves from a tree in July

Asked June 20, 2015, 12:13 PM EDT

Why is my thornless locust losing its leaves in July? For the past few years the tree starts dropping leaves in July. It looks like mid-September around my house. To try and stop the problem I bought and applied different types of disease fighters for trees. Nothing has worked. The trees are beautiful for about 2 months. I'm anticipating the same problem again in a few weeks. Can you help?

Your Honey Locust is likely suffering from the Honey Locust plant bug which attacks the tree from Spring to June. It results in leaf curling and some defoliation. The following link is a more comprehensive overview and includes recommendations for control. http://ento.psu.edu/extension/factsheets/honeylocust-plant-bug Good luck with your efforts.
