tree stump fungus

Asked June 19, 2015, 9:29 AM EDT

I have fungus on a dead stump. Wondered if it was toxic. I have pictures. There are 3 different fungi growing on the same stump.

They are different types of wood decay fungi.

I am not aware that they are toxic, but I would not plan on consuming them.

Thanks for the question.

Okay but do you know the names of these fungi? My cats use the stump to get on the porch. I will look them up and see what I need to know but first I need the names. IF possible.

Thank you for your time,

I do not know the name of the fungi on your stump. the most common is Ganoderma. This may be the fungus causing the conks on the stump. I have been unable to track down any information on whether it is poisonous or not.

Thanks
