Hi Frank -

Can you send a photo?

Is it the soil that is turning black? Or, is it a slimy type substance that appears to be black?

We have had lots of rain, which makes cyanobacteria (nostoc balls) a rather common occurrence. These appear in lawns and gravel and other spots where water sits and drainage is pooor. Here is a description (the photo looks green/black, but when in the lawn it looks more dark green/black).
