Mole Capture and Disposal

Asked June 17, 2015, 2:52 PM EDT

We are seeing evidence of a mole(s) in our yard. It seems to have started in our back yard and are now seeing it in our front. Is there any advice on capture as well as recommended traps and disposal of them?

Here is out website info on moles in lawns: http://extension.umd.edu/hgic/moles-lawns
Moles are actually beneficial in several ways.
Moles eat grubs--and you want them to eat the grubs. There are going to be a huge number of beetles this year, and all those grubs are going to turn into beetles. (However, Grub control products don't get rid of moles, because the moles just eat worms and other things.) Moles also aerate the soil for you.
So, you might want to consider letting them do their tunneling for a while. They usually leave by the next year.

If you want to use traps, use a harpoon trap. You'll have to tamp down all the tunnels in the lawn to figure out where the mole it so that you know where to put the trap.
