Leptospirosis and soil amendments

Asked June 16, 2015, 8:53 AM EDT

A few weeks ago I put down many bags of top soil and garden soil in our flower garden and yard. Our dog, who is an inside dog with little exposure to other animals, has just been diagnosed with Leptospirosis. Is there any chance this soil/water borne bacteria could have ridden in on the bagged soils? If yes, is there any product I can use to "decontaminate" the new soils without killing everything.

I am so sorry to hear about your dog. I am afraid that as Master Gardeners we cannot help you with this. You would need to get a laboratory soil analysis to get a definitive answer. You might Google "laboratory soil analysis in Dallas County" for information on such a lab. Thank you for contacting us.
