Hi Folks, Finally had a new black walnut tree come up this spring, But now developing drak brown to black spots on a few leaves and stem. We have had allot of rain everyday and the mushrooms are growing as well. Wonder if moisture is the problem??

Good afternoon,
Well, Michigan certainly has had its fair share of rain these past few weeks, hasn't it? I am not certain what may be causing your spots, but it could be an anthracnose disease. It's caused by a fungus that is indeed spread by wind and moisture. There isn't much you can do about it, but the tree may survive. You could try to place mulch around the base of the seedling (but NOT directly up against its stem), and be sure to remove all fallen leaves up to and through autumn to reduce the chance of re-infection.
