Bush Blue Lake beans

Asked June 13, 2015, 4:26 PM EDT

Think I should have flowers and maybe even beans starting by now, but all I have are these long stems. Have the beans all "gone to seed"? This has never happened before. What can I do differently?

Sounds like too much Nitrogen in your soil - you can try letting the ground dry out and only water enough to avoid stressing the plants; this will help the soil release some of the excess Nitrogen. However - it may be too late to fix; next year, do a soil test (available via the Cooperative Extension) before planting, and amend the soil as needed for optimal veg growth!
