Please identify this beatle

Asked June 12, 2015, 1:35 PM EDT

I cut some lilac flowers and gave them to my neighbor.

She came right back over with this beatle that had fallen on her table.

We both are concerned about the EAB, but after research, I don't think that is what it is.

Also, I was standing under my Little Leaf Lindin and saw the red galls on the leaves.

I think that it is a gall mite and that nothing can be done about it at this time.

I have never seen this in over 30 years.

Is this new to our area?

It's not EAB, just as you thought. Difficult to tell for sure but we think it a beneficial arthropod.

It is a stink bug: Edessa bifida., in case you need to give it a name :-) I like to know what's visiting my garden!
