Shrub and tree in distress

We recently noticed the shrub and tree in our front yard showing signs of distress. The leaves of the shrub are covered in white spots with many leaves having fallen off. The underside of the tree has many wilting leaves and some leaves with holes. See photos.

Leaf spot is usually a form of a fungal disease. Trees usually survive a fungal attack such as this without much damage. Any dead branches, however, should be trimmed out of the tree using sterilized pruning shears. Sterilize equipment by dipping them in a 10-15% bleach solution. Any leaves that fall off the trees should be disposed of by throwing them out. Check out the following website from the University of Minnesota:
