Butterfly bush

Asked June 9, 2015, 11:16 AM EDT

I have a butterfly bush in my yard in Ellicott City. I've been here ten years, and every year it has bloomed. I prune it back every fall, but this year I don't see any new growth at all. I believe these plants are late to break dormancy, but should it already be showing new growth? I'm trying to decide if I should wait longer or dig it up.

The butterfly bush should have showed some kind of life by now. Sounds like it may have succumbed to winter kill. A better time to prune butterfly bush is in March.
