emerald ash borer infestation

Asked June 8, 2015, 8:56 PM EDT

One of my 30-foot Ash trees is infected with emerald ash borer. My tree surgeon favors turning the dead tree into mulch & then grinding the stump. I don't have a safe location to burn the dead tree on the site. Can I instruct the tree man to mulch the dead tree?

You do not have to burn the tree on the site. The tree can be chipped. The wood chips can be used as mulch, put into your compost pile, or sent to the dump. Emerald ash borer cannot exist in the chips. The best thing to do is to use the chips right on your property.
