My redbud trees have seed pods like the one in the picture. Can they be planted like maple pods and if so, when do you do so and will a redbud tree actually grow?

You can easily grow redbud from seed. They seed themselves naturally in the wild fairly often. So, you can replicate those conditions. Let the seeds dry on the tree naturally. In September-October collect the seed and plant then.
