Disposal of wood chips from dead ash tree

Asked June 4, 2015, 12:15 PM EDT

We just had an ash tree cut down and the stump partially ground. This tree was dead and we suspect that it may have been infested with the emerald ash borer as many others have been in our Columbia neighborhood. My question is how we can responsibly dispose of the wood chips from the ground stump. We typically put our yard waste either out for recycling or in our green food scraps/composting bin for weekly pickup. Is this safe? If not, how do we responsibly dispose of these wood chips?

The wood chips can be used as mulch, put into your compost pile or sent to the Howard County dump. Emerald ash borer cannot exist in the chips. The best thing to do is to use the chips right on your property. vw
