Hello, I have been seeing 3" long, brown in color looks like dead dried...
Scat, or wildlife feces i.d. can be challenging, especially as the looks of it can change based on the animals diet. Clues such as size, placement, and if you can see seeds or bone fragments are sometimes possible helps.
(Dead worms are dried and brown too btw).
Here is a slide series from Penn State Extension with some helpful photos which might allow you to narrow it down: http://extension.psu.edu/natural-resources/forests/courses/pa-forests-web-seminar-center/archive/wil...
Possible suspects include domestic as well as wildlife, including but not limited to cats, dogs, coyote, fox, skunk, groundhog, raccoon, etc.
If you do an internet search on 'scat' there are other helpful references as well.
