What is causing the brown bumpy growth on my apricots?

My apricots have set a lot of fruit this year. The fruit has a brown bumpy growth on the top surface and is dropping fruit. Is this normal?

I believe through my research that your tree may have Coryneum blight. It affects stone fruits and occurs in the early spring. Fruit develops symptoms that you mention. It is spread through spores which can stay in the tree over several years.

It will be important to pick up and throw away any tree debris. Pruning and possible fungicide treatment will be needed. I have attached two links to University Extension articles that give details about the disease and its treatment:
