Tree limbs freeze

Asked May 27, 2015, 11:37 PM EDT

a 4 year old pecan tree planted in Wisconsin had all limbs fall off this last winter. Both trees have had to start over each year from 4" base due to rabbits eating bark. Last year trees grew 8' and had trunk covered up 4'. This Spring I noticed all branches on both trees fell off. Lots of new buds now but will same thing happen each year and is there anything I can do to prevent? Thank you Russ Wilson

Pecan trees really are not reliably hardy in Wisconsin (zones 6-9, some surviving into zone 5) so you should expect a lot of winter kill unless we have an unusually mild winter.
