We are not familiar with Chinese Maple trees. Do you mean Japanese Maple, or perhaps Abutilon, which is in the same family as hibiscus, and is grown for it's flowers?
Regardless, it sounds as if your plant is having establishment problems, either from sudden changes in light and temperature, root disruption or poor planting, culture or site problems.
