mole habitat

Asked May 25, 2015, 1:35 PM EDT

We recently found a mole nest in our barn. It was above ground on top of the concrete slab. It was made up of small mud pellets and for needle. We saw him running across the wall of the barn and disappear under the work bench. The nest was large. Not less than 16" x14". We found the mole in the nest! The mole tunnel was just outside the big doors about 15' from the nest. Is this normal?

That would be an unusual circumstance for a mole. Did you get a picture of the animal(s) or the next? This sounds closer to something we'd see from animals other than moles, which are almost 100% fossorial (underground).
