1st catalpa tree was removed after 3 years due to 1/2 of the tree not leafing out at all. Removed and replaced with another catalpa 2 years ago. Last year was slow to leaf out on parts of the tree but then became full and beautiful. This year the catalpa is not leafing at all (end of May) - dead. Verticillium wilt or what are your thoughts? How do I get a diagnosis confirmed? Thank you.

Hi,
It sounds like it could be Verticillium Wilt and it can be soil born so perhaps infected the new tree. The best diagnosis will be from a certified Arborist who can visit the site. Below is a link to information and a list of trees that are susceptible and those that are resistant.
