crape myrtle

sorry I didn't make my self clear. my plants are dead from the ground up but are sprouting from the stump about 6 or 8 in. eight or more. was the winter to cold for them. how do I prune what is growing.

Yes the winter probably got them. We are surmising that the worst damamge may have been the early cold spell around Thanksgiving.

What to do now? In about another 2 or 3 weeks you could select the sucker sprouts to let grow and prune out the others. If the sucker sprouts seem to get too long and gangly, then tip them at some point (say mid to late June?) to get them to branch.
