My family just purchased a lot at Deep Creek Lake. It is not waterfront property, but rather on a hill but it is very wooded and there is a stream that runs close to the property. Are there any snakes, particularly poisonous snakes that we should be concerned with once we have built? Are there effective ways to repel snakes?

The only poisonous snakes in Maryland are the timber rattlesnake and the copperhead. http://dnr2.maryland.gov/wildlife/Pages/plants_wildlife/vsnakes.aspx
Snakes are very beneficial, they keep rodents under control and rodents carry diseases. http://extension.umd.edu/hgic/snakes There are no effective ways to repel snakes. vw
