I need to know if there is a shrub that grows in Michigan, stays green year round, and only grows to around 3 feet tall. It will be in full sun in summer and full wind in winter. I need something to hide an ugly 4-foot-high electric utility box.
There are a couple of plants that come readily to mind for evergreen selections. They are Yew and Boxwood. Both have to be trimmed in the fall to keep them within your three foot parameters but they are good performers through Michigan winters. One other is Barberry that will hold its leaves year round however it is a poor choice for placing next to a utility box as this plant is outfitted with a hefty amount of thorns. Pretty picky to work with and around. Thank you for using the Ask an Expert System.
