Terracing an Organic Garden

Asked May 1, 2015, 10:05 PM EDT

We have a steep sloped hill that we would like to terrace to prevent erosion and also to increase our organic garden. What would be the best material to use to block the soil at each terrace? It can't be too thick or there won't be a wide enough strip of earth for planting. Also it needs to be a material that will be safe for growing food. Thanks.

Retaining wall blocks should work great...they a a lip on them so they don't slip as well.
