Milkweed Seed for Monarch Butterflies

Asked April 28, 2015, 10:54 PM EDT

My daughter has been talking about finding a project where she can "help the environment." I thought a good idea might be to plant milkweed seed or plants to help the Monarch butterflies. I see the PSU Extension office in Franklin County has a program where they are giving out plants, but I can't find anything similar for Centre or Mifflin counties. Are you offering anything like that?

The Xerces Society for invertebrate conservation has a web page called milkweed seed finder that may help you to find milkweed seeds. There are also butterfly weed, Asclepias tuberosa, seeds available for sale at many seed stores. This variety of milkweed is a nice garden plant.
