Woodpecker banging on pipe

Asked April 26, 2015, 8:49 AM EDT

A woodpecker is banging on our furnace pipe and taking the paint off. It happens annually. The pipe protrudes from the front of the roof so we can't use streamers or fake predators. We are about to have the pipe repainted as part of a larger project and wondered if there was anything we would add to the paint as a deterrent. Alternatively, is there anything we can get to safely encase the pipe or do you have other suggestions. Thanks.

Woodpeckers have pecked on the space shuttle, so you are not alone. There is nothing that you can add to the paint, but you could hang bird netting or hardware cloth around the area where they usually peck. vw
