what is eating my broccoli plant?

Asked April 23, 2015, 11:58 AM EDT

I planted some broccoli plants about 2 weeks ago in the Rocking Horse Community Garden in Rockville, Maryland. Last week I noticed holes in many of the leaves. Can you tell me what is causing this? Is an insect eating the leaves or is it an indication of disease? Thank you!

Odds are good that if you look carefully you will see cabbage loopers which are quite small when they first hatch. http://extension.umd.edu/growit/insects/cabbage-looper If so, you might want to spray with a Bt product as mentioned in the above link. vw

Thank you! Where can I buy a Bt product and it is ok to use in an organic garden?

Bt can be found at most garden centers and most big box stores. It is ok to use it in an organic garden. vw
