Why is my Daphne failing?

Asked April 19, 2015, 12:19 PM EDT

Hello. I'm hoping you can help me with my favorite garden plant. My Daphne, which is at least 15 years old seems to be failing. It has lots of yellow leaves and seems to be missing quite a few. I have definitely noticed the change this year, but now that I think about it, the problem may have started last year. The plant is on the west side of my house but is shaded by large Maple trees in the afternoon. Thanks so much for your time.

Daphnes usually do well in the PNW, but are not very long-lived plants with estimates of 10-20 years (Great Plant Picks) to 8 years or less (NC State U). The problem could also be root rot, but the other plants in the pictures look great. It might be time to replace your beloved plant with a new one.
