When to seed a lawn in the Anoka/Andover area
Thank you for the question. The very best time to seed a lawn in Minnesota is mid August through mid September because there is less competition from weeds at this time and the seed will have enough time to establish a strong root structure to make it through the winter. You can seed in early spring but chance for success are reduced because weeds are sprouting as well and can overtake the new grass seedlings. Please read this publication on seeding a lawn from the University of Minnesota Extension Sustainable Urban Landscape Information Series: http://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/landscaping/maint/newlawn_3.html
