Crepe Myrtles: When is the best time to prune and how much? One tree is a "Pink Lace" variety and is about 12 feet tall. The other variety is a white crepe myrtle tree about 15 feet tall. Is the wood considered "hardwood" and can it be burned in my fireplace without worrying about creosote? Thanks for your help.

Crape myrtles do not need to be pruned. However, if you need to prune it to remove excessive stems, trunks, or because it is outgrowing its allotted space, then early spring is the best time.

Crape myrtle wood is hard enough to be fine as firewood. Reportedly, it has a nice fragrance.
