Dogs and plants

Asked March 31, 2015, 1:54 PM EDT

Hi! I have been reading about companion planting (i.e. basil for tomatoes, marigolds for gardens) but know that marigolds can be poisonous to dogs. I'm curious if there are good companion plants - as well as bee and butterfly friendly plants - that can be used around dogs?

Thank you!

Kristy,

Thank you for your question. This is a question for your veterinarian to answer. Your vet should know which plants are poisonous to dogs.

However, Colorado State University does supply this research-based list of plants not to plant near animals. Here is the link http://www.vth.colostate.edu/poisonous_plants/ (you will need to click on the line that says: Plants NOT to plant in animal enclosures!)
