Contaminated Horse Feed

Asked March 24, 2015, 10:09 AM EDT

Hey is there anyway to test horses feed if it's contaminated? It's making my horses sick and choke whenever they eat it and they've never had this issue before. Opened a new bag and they all got sick within 5 mins of eating it.

Yes, you can send a sample of the feed to the Soil, Water and Forage Testing Lab at Texas A&M University or you can send a sample to the Veterinarian Diagnostic Lab at Texas A&M University for testing or both. I would also suggest consulting with your veterinarian about the feed. I would also take them off of the feed immediately, which you have probably already done. You might also want to contact your local Extension agent in Harris County. He or she might be able to direct you to someone local that could help.
