Olive Trees in Medford

Asked March 20, 2015, 6:32 PM EDT

Just moved to Medford and need a large, multi-trunk evergreen that can be kept under 25' tall. Would an olive succeed here? Any other thoughts on the drought tolerant column?

Olives are generally not recommended in the Rogue Valley.Olives generally don't survive temperatures below 10 degrees which we experience every several years. Most evergreens that meet your criteria are conifers but you could consider a tree type holly or a magnolia grandiflora - make sure to get a dwarf variety that is winter hardy here. I'd suggest dropping by one or several of the local nurseries who can guide you in selection of a tree that meets your needs.
