pasture renewing

Asked March 15, 2015, 10:01 PM EDT

I was wondering what would be the best thing to plant for a pasture. I have mostly goats but also have a couple mini donkeys and horses mixed in. I was also wondering the best way to go about it. It is about an acre right now.

Ballard County Kentucky

With such a small acreage it will be extremely hard to keep from over crowding or over grazing. The toughest pasture grass that we have, able to overcome the most stresses is KY 31 Fescue. I would suggest using this mixed with some red and white clovers as the best options. Ky 31 can be succesfully planted in the spring from February 1st to April 15th. Planting rate is 10 to 15 lbs per acre. The Ballard County Conservation District in Kevil has a notill seeded that can be rented.
